Aussie shearers in strike threat

By FWi staff

AUSTRALIAN sheep shearers are threatening to walk out of sheep sheds in protest at poor pay and harsh working conditions, reports The Daily Telegraph.

At present they are paid A$1.74 (70p) a sheep and their union is demanding a 16% pay rise over two years.

Numbers have plummeted from 30,000 two decades ago to around 10,000 as the national flock has shrunk and wool prices tumbled.
