Bale rough edges are smoothed

ROUND bales with rough edges and surfaces could be a thing of the past thanks to a new type of netwrap which is designed to work inside John Deeres variable chamber balers.

Made by TamaNet, the John Deere CoverEdge is wider than conventional netwrap and is designed to be applied over the edge and sides of bales down to 10cm.

The netwrap is produced from a different knitting process to enable it to extend over the edge of the bale, and is applied using a modified wrapper unit on the baler.

The outside strand on each side of the roll has improved characteristics which allow it to stretch over the edge of the bale during wrapping, says TamaNet.

"The CoverEdge netwrap gives added protection to the most vulnerable part of the bale and helps to prevent ground water from being absorbed," explains Graham Robson of TamNets distributor UAT.

"With so much of a bales volume concentrated in the outer layer, the extra protection can save significant quantities of the crop."

Mr Robson reckons the biggest advantage of the netwrap will be for silage bales which should be preserved better due to more trapped air being squeezed out and improved protection.

Cost of the CoverEdge netwrap is £90 for a 3000m roll. &#42

Neater and better protected round bales is the claim for the John Deere CoverEdge netwrap.
