Baroness claims Labour MPs
duped in £5m anti-hunting campaign

COUNTRYSIDE Alliance president Baroness Mallalieu claimed yesterday that a £5 million lobbying campaign by animal welfare activists duped MPs into believing there was widespread public support for a ban on hunting.

She wrote in Country Life that the League Against Cruel Sports, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare had infiltrated party branches and targeted new Labour MPs in a letter-writing campaign.

The Countryside Alliance organised the pro-hunting rally through Central London, in March, which attracted about 250,000 people.
