Beef producers to go it alone

LEADERS of Britains beef cattle industry have won their battle for separate representation under the umbrella of the National Cattle Association.

At an extraordinary general meeting yesterday, it was decided that a separate body would be set up under the NCA. The sub-division could be called the National Beef Association.

But what is uncertain is how far are producers prepared to go to finance a new lobby and promotional body.

A further announcement on the plans are expected to be unveiled at the Beef 98 show at Balbuthie, in Fife, Scotland, on Friday.
