Bishop backs Zimbabwe land grab

A PRESIDENT of the World Council of Churches (WCC) has backed Zimbabwes seizure of farm land from white farmers, claiming it is based on teachings from the Bible.

Bishop Vinton Anderson, of the Methodist Episcopal Church in St Louis, Missouri, endorsed the policy that has led to the confiscation of white-owned farms.

President Mugabe ordered the land-grab despite opposition from the countrys main aid donors, including Britain, the European Union and the USA.

The WCC is unlikely to produce a formal statement on the land policy at its assembly this week because of objections from the British delegation.
