Bloodline sets pulses racing

HOLSTEIN breeders went into overdrive after being given the chance to buy bloodlines from the world famous brood cow Snow-N Denises Dellia Ex95 at the HUKI sale of bulls at Portadown last week.

Bidding raced up to 3400gns when the December 2000 born Killane Regan from David Perrys herd at Ahogill was claimed by Victor Draffin, Dromore.

Regan, which has a PIN of £39, is by Hunsberger Elton Copper and out of Regancrest Leadman Dolly, which has so far produced 11 VG two-year-old daughters. Dolly is out of Dellia and comes from this highly regarded cow dynasty.

New American bloodlines caught buyers imagination pushing bidding to 3200gns before J Gilliland, Belfast, secured Clarkestown Durham from David Clarke, Ballymena.

He is by Regancrest Elton Durham and out of Brigeen-C Integrity Rue Ex91 which gave 15,431kg at 3.7% protein in twice-a-day milking with her second calf. Her sister is the highest classified Integrity daughter in the US.

This family traces back to the "cow of the century" Glenridge Citation Roxy Ex97.

One of the bulls from an impressive team paraded by Newtownards breeders Harry Patton and Sons also realised 3200gns. Ards Lucas, by Comestar Outside and out of Frankenhof Lenora 40th Ex91, sold to Mr McDonald, Newtownards. Butterfats up to 5.02% are a feature of this impressive bulls breeding.

Skyhigh Ivory Mandel is leaving some outstanding progeny in James Morrison and Sons Inch herd at Downpatrick and the sale was treated to a notable son of hers by Lystel Leduc. Inch Ivan, which has a PIN of £41, stood champion and sold for 3100gns to W Jones, Templepatrick.

There was more Glenridge Citation Roxy breeding on offer through an Emerson son from JR McClean and Sons Relough herd at Donaghmore. This bull was out of Joylan Blackstar Roxie and sold at 3050gns to JJ and BJ Rankin.

Other leading bids included 3000gns for a Cousteau son (to Ivan Jackson, Ballymena) from the Ards herd, while 2250gns was paid for a Motto son from Bangor breeder Sean McCormicks Hilltara, which carried off the reserve championship (Automart). &#42
