Bone-in ban on the way out?

A MEETING of chief medical officers this week could lead to the government lifting its beef-on-the-bone ban within a fortnight.

The officers from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are expected to gather to discuss a long-awaited report by leading BSE specialist Professor Anderson.

It is hoped this could pave the way for the ban to be lifted within the next fortnight, reports the BBC Farming Today programme

The agriculture committee of Welsh assembly was due to meet later today to specifically discuss the ban, but this has been postponed until next week.

Meanwhile, National Farmers Union leader Ben Gill will use the opportunity of todays Anglo-French summit on defence in London to sustain pressure for a solution to Frances British beef boycott.

Mr Gill will be handing in a letter to Downing St emphasising the need for a speedy resolution to the ban.
