Bymalpha lots remain in the family at Wem

IT was a family affair at the dispersal of Mr and Mrs Alf Johnsons Bymalpha Holstein Friesian herd, with the top priced lots in each section claimed by the couples son and daughter-in-law.

The sale, held at Top House Farm, Kenwick Park, Ellesmere, saw Christopher Johnson pay 2600gns for a new calved heifer, 1800gns for an in-calf heifer, 2000gns for a cow and 1000gns for a maiden heifer to establish a new herd at Wem.

The 2600gns bid came for the December calved heifer Bymalpha Cherokee Hilary (GP82-2yr), an Indianhead Cherokee daughter giving 31kg a day.

At 2000gns the couple claimed the young cow Bymaplha Royalist Juanita 5th (VG85) that gave 9268kg as a heifer and was well on her way to a beating that in her second lactation.

In-calf heifers reached 1800gns given for Bymalpha Flip Foxglove, due at the end of June to Coldsprings Vertuosa. She is bred out of a 12,000kg VG dam and sired by Cook-Farm Starbuck Flip.

Calves peaked at 1000gns for Bymalpha Maverick Isobel 2nd, a Shoremark Maverick daughter.

AVERAGES: 71 cows and heifers £1199, 26 served heifers £861 and 26 maiden heifers £503. (Wright-Manley.)n
