Calon Wen joins Milk Group

WELSH dairy farmers are set to benefit from the merger of The Milk Group and the all-Welsh farmer-owned organic milk co-op Calon Wen.

“Our ambition is to accelerate the development of a range of specialist dairy products for processing, and to grow the market for Welsh organic products,” said Richard Tomlinson, vice-chairman of Calon Wen.

Robert Audas, The Milk Groups chief executive added that the move was directly in line with ongoing plans to increase their involvement in specialist, branded dairy product manufacture.

“It offers both parties the opportunity to achieve operational and supply chain cost savings, and also the ability to build significantly on existing organic milk pools and achieve improved margins from the market place.”

The Milk Group supplies about 20 million litres of organic milk a year. This is expected to more than double within the next two years.
