Cattle movement HQ for Cumbria

THE Government today announced that the headquarters of its new British Cattle Movement Service will be at Workington, Cumbria, creating more than 100 jobs.

Deputy Agriculture Minister Jeff Rooker gave the news in the Commons as he responded to a short debate on the beef industry.

Mr Rooker said the service was aimed at tracing the background and lineage of cattle to prove they are BSE-free.
