Christmas cheer for virus victims
By Adrienne Francis
A HERTFORDSHIRE businesswoman has taken the initiative to market a card in aid of farmers hit by the foot-and-mouth crisis.
Maggie Tingle, of Tingle Cards, is donating 40p from every pack of Christmas cards sold to the Supporting Farmers in Crisis fund.
“I was brought up in a rural community and know about the dreadful problems that foot-and-mouth has caused,” Mrs Tingle said.
“I had been thinking for some time about how I could help and when I heard of the … appeal I thought it would be ideal.”
“Weve already had a very good response. One of my florist customers bought 80 packs which was very encouraging.”
Barney Kay of the National Farmers Union said: “Farmers have already been overwhelmed by the public response to the fund.
“Events across the country have raised more than 800,000 and this card should boost the total even further.”
The card shows a sheep on a winters night, with the message “Thinking of you this Christmas.”
