Cider tax increase
INCREASED excise duty on sparkling cider, after a UK deal with the EU Commission, could put Britains specialist cider makers out of business, warns Somerset cider maker Julian Temperley.
He says makers of low-strength – 8% by volume – sparkling wines, have complained to the EC about unfair competition in the UK from sparkling ciders and perries. *
