Man charged over death of farmer

A 22-year-old-man has been charged with the murder of Warwickshire farmer, Michael Boffey.

Mr  Boffey died on 20 August while trying to stop his Land Rover being driven away from his farm at Withybrook.

He suffered severe head injuries after he was in collision with the vehicle.

It is thought Mr Boffey was trying to protect his pet border terrier, Jack, by blocking a gateway at the farm, believing the animal was still inside his vehicle.

Now Ashley Squires, of Styon Road, New Parks, Leicester, has appeared before Nuneaton magistrates.

In addition to the charge of murdering 61-year-old Mr Boffey he was also charged with conspiracy to steal vehicles.

No application for bail was made and Mr Squires is to appear at Warwick Crown Court on 19 Sept for a preliminary hearing.

Mr Boffey was married with three children and five grandchildren.

Detectives are continuing their search for a second person in connection with the investigation.
