Criminals target red diesel
CRIMINAL gangs are targeting “red” or agricultural diesel from farms, according to the farmers insurance business, the NFU Mutual.
The insurance group reports a spate of thefts in the past few months. Red diesel attracts a 3p/gal rate of duty, against 50p for ordinary DERV.
NFU Mutual also reports increased thefts of agricultural equipment, including tractors, which it believes are being smuggled into East European countries.
