Crohn’s linked to lack of vitamin
A LINK has been found between a vitamin deficiency and a bowel disease which some scientists believe may be caused by a bug found in milk.
Researchers in Philadelphia found that mice engineered to have Crohns disease suffered worse symptoms when deprived of vitamin D.
If given supplements of the vitamin for two weeks, their condition improved, reportsThe Guardian.
Professor John Hermon-Taylor of St Georges medical school in London, claims that a bacterium mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) survives milk pasteurisation.
He says the chances that MAP is reaching human populations through retail pasteurised milk are very high.
MAP is thought to cause Crohns Disease, which effects 80,000 people in Britain.
