Dates set for potato events

THE British Potato Council has released its catalogue of events for the coming year.

First is Earlies 2000 on 13 July at Harper Adams University College, Shropshire.

This agronomy-led field event will look in particular at early packing, chipping and crisping production.

Full results from trial plots at the event – together with new consumer research – will be presented at a follow-up conference on 16 November.

The next national GB potato event will be held in 2001, which the BPC says is likely to be in September.

The BPC is also involved in the World Potato Congress and Potato 2000 events on 3-6 and 6-8 September respectively, at Amsterdam and Emmeloord in the Netherlands.

The BPC is also supporting Roots 2000 on 24-25 May at Newark, Nottinghamshire, organised by the Agricultural Engineers Association.

The events policy has been designed to create opportunities in the potato industry for technology transfer, business networking and problem solving says Helen Priestly, head of marketing and communications at the BPC.

“In some instances, this also lends itself to the exhibition of products and services.

“Overall, the plan is to hold national events in alternate years and specialist events in the intervening years,” she adds.
