Europe to miss green targets: CLA
EUROPE IS in danger of failing to meet its long-term environmental objectives due to arguments about the money governments are prepared to spend.
According to Country Land and Business Association chief economist Alan Buckwell, the whole basis of the recent EU Commission proposal for future rural development depends on member states putting in more cash.
But so far at least six member states who are net contributors to the EU budget, have dug their heels in, he told this week”s Agra-Europe Rural Development in Europe conference in London.
These problems were compounded by a lack of political will to transfer significant amounts of money to rural development through modulation.
