Weather warnings as Scotland braces for more snow

Weather warnings have been issued over parts of Scotland, Wales and northern England as snow and heavy rain continues to hit the UK.

The Met Office said heavy rain was expected in parts of southern and central Scotland on Monday (7 February), including Strathclyde, Lothian and Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. Rain is expected to make way for snow, with up to 20cm (8 inches) possible on higher ground.

Motorists have been advised to take care as the icy conditions continue. A number of roads have been closed around Badenoch and Moray due to snow.

In the Midlands, Northwest and Northeast England, 18 flood warnings were in place on Monday, while three warnings were in place in northern Wales around the Dee Valley. The Environment Agency had also issued 40 flood alerts across the same regions.

The warnings come after a weekend of storms which saw winds of more than 100mph recorded in Scotland, as well as strong winds in Wales, Northern Ireland and northern England.
