FACTS FOLK KEPT POSTED ON FACTS…

CHANGES are afoot for the Fertiliser Advisers Certification and Training Scheme.

There are currently 3840 FACTS certificated people working in the fertiliser field, including merchant, marketing, advisory, educational and research staff.

"We are very pleased with the uptake, but accept the need for a wider recognition by farmers," says Valerie Silvey, independent chairman of the FACTS management committee.

To help achieve that the FACTS committee has made a bid for a grant under the DTI Sector Challenge to underwrite a computer database to keep certificate holders up to speed, comments Ms Silvey.

A continued professional development scheme is also under discussion. That would give certified people a chance to keep abreast of developments by attending appropriate meetings and training throughout their working life.n
