Farm farewell controversy
Farm farewell controversy
WHO is to blame for farmings latest foray into the killing fields that were once thriving farms? What is the point of laying blame when all around is death and destruction?
David Parker outlines the events, decisions and non-decisions that put farming in peril, leading up to the foot-and-mouth outbreak in February 2001.
The last chapter of his book* sets the scene one month into the outbreak when chaos is reigning. Parker has compiled an enlightening progression of events, during the three years preceding the devastating outbreak, leading to the downfall of the milk industry and the farming industrys inability to co-operate and market its production.
He is controversial in places, criticising organisations, lack of leadership and political promises, but many farmers may agree with him.
