Cattle and sheep survey crucial to support sector, says NFU

Beef and sheep farmers have been asked to complete a survey on business intentions to help gauge the effect of soaring costs and global events.

The online Livestock Production Intentions Survey is hosted by the NFU and NFU Cymru.

The unions are concerned about the effects of the war in Ukraine and input cost inflation on livestock businesses, and how this might affect their plans.

NFU Cymru said it wanted to capture key concerns of producers, along with information on plans to increase or decrease production over the next couple of years.

The survey will also provide an opportunity to highlight the main reasons behind the decisions to make changes to plans.

The information will then be used to better inform discussions with the supply chain and policymakers.

This will help to ensure decisions are made that support the British livestock sector, an NFU Cymru spokesperson suggested.

The spokesperson urged as many beef and sheep farmers as possible to take part in the survey to help build the most accurate insight into the situation on farms.

Completing the survey will take less than 10 minutes, the spokesperson said.

Once it has been completed, NFU Cymru will contact farmers who have questions or queries that need resolving and, where appropriate, questions will be passed to policy teams.

Take part

The survey, which closes at 11pm on Sunday 25 September, can be found on the NFU and NFU Cymru’s websites.
