Feed producers set to collect $1bn

US animal feed producers are set to collect up to $1 billion from the settlement of a lawsuit against three European companies.

Roche, BASF and Rhône-Poulenc admitted taking part in a conspiracy to fix the worldwide market in vitamins.

Lawyers originally hoped to recoup just $500m from the companies, but investigative work has raised their demands.

The three companies have already admitted to their involvement in the cartel, which controlled the price and sale of bulk vitamins for nine years.
