Feeder extends vertical volume horizontally…

By Andy Moore

AS VERTICAL diet feeders are produced with greater capacities, they usually become taller – with the result that low-slung doorways and ceilings can pose problems.

Hants-based RMH claims to have solved this problem by introducing trailed vertical diet feeders which maintain low body height – and generous capacity – by using two augers.

A five-model line-up offers capacities from 16cu m to 26cu m and is deemed to cater for herd sizes from 150 to 270. Body heights for the feeders are from 2.8m to 3.2m (9 to 10ft 5in), with maximum widths remaining the same as the companys larger single auger models.

Drive to each auger is via shaft and a two-speed gearbox, providing 22rpm or 42rpm operating speeds – with chopping carried out by high tensile auger knives and four fixed counter knives.

The feeders, which can handle baled straw, hay and silage, transfer mixed feed to the front for left or right-hand side discharge. Rear delivery is optional.

Standard specification includes an electronic weigh cell system that can, if specified, be operated from the tractor cab using a radio control system. A 16cu m twin auger feeder will be available in early January with the larger capacity machines following throughout the rest of the year.
