Flash floods cause £5m damage on farms in North Yorkshire
FLASH FLOODS in North Yorkshire on Sun (Jun 21) may lead to a claims bill of over £5m for damage to farms and country properties, according to NFU Mutual.
The rural insurer has said that some farms in the region have been hit hard.
David Sweeney, chief claims manager, said that one of the most serious incidents reported so far involved a farmer from Helmsley who had lost almost 300 sheep.
Another farmer had a livestock building near Kirkbymoorside swept away which contained 35 cattle.
“We have pulled out all the stops to help badly-affected policyholders get emergency repairs under way, and are making immediate payments where necessary,” said Mr Sweeney.
