Fresh-calvers wanted
DAIRY farmers are ready to reinvest their cohort compensation in freshly-calved cattle, but quality is the keynote.
So said Barry Colton of Kittows, after the latest dairy show and sale at Hallworthy, Cornwall, where the top price was £1270. This was given for a freshly-calved Thuborough Freestar daughter from J G Leys Hoops herd at Holsworthy. Buyer was A D Harvey, Treludderow.
The champion, a Valiant Rockie daughter that had nudged 9000kg as a heifer, was consigned by Richard Grubb and made £970 to J Rowe, Twowatersfoot.
AVERAGES: 31 calved heifers £780 and 41 calved cows £720.
