Gareth, barbecue king…
A really meaty feast of a barbecue menu gained Gareth Eddy the title of Barbecue Chef of the Year at the National Festival of Meat run by the Royal Smithfield Club.
Gareth who was presented with his trophy and a barbecue by the Lord Mayor of London Michael Oliver, is head chef at the Pescadou Restaurant, Padstow, Cornwall.
Among the items featured on his winning menu were rib eye steak with tarragon and grain mustard butter, cutlets of Cornish lamb filled with roasted red peppers, confit garlic finished with basil and rocket pesto, calves liver bound in smoked bacon cooked with a Madeira glaze and Lincolnshire pork chops scented with home smoked pineapple glazed with sweet chilli.
"The contest was great fun," says Gareth, 28, who almost had a double celebration on his hands when his partner started early labour while he was at the Festival. Fortunately the new baby, scheduled for Dec 27, seems to have decided to wait to make a grand entrance later this month.
