GM crops throughout France

GM OILSEED rape, sugar beet and maize was grown across 291ha (720 acres) in France last summer, from the Pas de Calais in the north, to the Languedoc Roussillon region in the south, reports France Agricole.

Of 240ha (590 acres) of maize, 55% was for seed use, 32% for commercial use, and the remainder in trials. All 31ha (77 acres) of GM sugar beet and 20ha (50 acres) of GM oilseed rape was experimental. GM sunflower, soya, tobacco and cotton trials were also carried out.
