GM technology ‘too important to be left to market’
THE governments chief scientific adviser has said that the development of genetically modified (GM) should not be left simply to market forces.
Sir Robert May also told MPs that GM technology should be harnessed for the benefit of the environment and for developing countries.
Speaking to the Commons Environmental Audit Select Committee, Sir Robert voiced fears about the impact of GM crops on biodiversity in the countryside.
But he said he was against a moratorium on the commercial growing of GM crops.
