Grain market update


Fridays trading – 12 September 1997

THE end of last week was very quiet. There was good news for growers with lower-kilo wheats, as small demand for shipments of 68kgs November onwards has emerged. Fallbacks: less £1/kg to 70kgs, less further £2/kg below. Start price was around £83 per tonne ex-farm.

Good premiums were still available for high-kilo Riband, Consort, Brigadier and Reaper – £90 October. One miller was looking to trial a load of Equinox this month – 10% protein , 180 Hag , 75kgs.

Both Allied and Dalgety have published their crop estimates, giving wheat figures of 14.8 and 15.04 million tonnes respectively, comp[arted with 16.2 million last year.

Class 1 milling wheat was in demand – £110 Sept v £111 November.

Spot oilseed rape was valued at £152-154 ex-farm.

Spot barley was valued at £72-75, depending on location.
