Grain tracing impresses

TRACEABILITY of Scottish grain impressed a recent export delegation and could lead to new export openings.

The Borders region hosted Finnish grain buyer Tapio Maki-Mantila in a bid to secure a share of Finlands 100,000t a year wheat import business. The Finns are short of biscuit wheat, a gap which Borders traders and growers believe they can fill.

Mr Maki-Mantila stressed that all grain imports must be able to be traced all the way back to the fields and farms they were grown on and the certified seed used. Supplies must also be accompanied by declarations of pre- and post-harvest pesticide use. &#42
