Grants aid BSE early diagnosis

NEW research to enable the early diagnosis of cattle with BSE has been announced by the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research, Aberystwyth.

The work will develop sensitive methods for the detection of chemicals in cows blood, urine or cerebrospinal fluid which will allow early diagnosis of the disease long before symptoms become visible.

The £0.6m programme is funded by grants from the Central Veterinary Laboratory and MAFF.n
