Green muck, less P from GM pigs

A GENETICALLY modified pig which will produces “green” faeces is one of a host of animals being modified in the USA, it is claimed.

The New York Times reports that the “enviro-pig” will produce low-phosphorous faeces which are deemed to be less damaging to the environment.

And many animals are being altered to produce milk with specific medicinal properties, such as sheep milk which could treat cystic fibrosis, claims the newspaper.

Federal regulations are running well behind advances in the biotechnology sector, exposing many loopholes, says The New York Times.
