Hants estate sale clouded in mystery
SECRECY surrounds the recently concluded sale of the 5000-acre Hursley Estate in Hants.
Adrian Neal, of selling agent Smiths Gore, says all concerned are bound by strict confidentiality agreements. The only thing Mr Neal could reveal was that the bare land portion of the estate made in excess of £2500/acre.
However, local sources say it is extremely likely the guide price of £18.5m was exceeded.
Although the identity of the buyer remains unknown, Iain Currie (now of BCM in Sutton Scotney), who acted for the purchaser on behalf of FPDSavills, says there are plans to build a substantial new house under PPG7 planning legislation.
At present the estate includes 30 dwellings but no principal residence commensurate with its size.
