Happy New Year for Welsh Black cattle breeders

WELSH Black cattle breeders enjoyed a bright start to the New Year when a bull made 3500gns at the breed societys winter show and sale.

The event at Dolgellau also saw a maiden heifer sell for 3000gns.

Pulled forward to take the male championship under judge R E Williams, Talybont, was T W Williams Caerynwch Cymro, a June 1996-bred son of Brysgaga Seraff 26th from his herd just outside Dolgellau. He left the ring unsold but was later claimed by T Evans, Pentrefoelas, at 3500gns.

There was keen interest in Llanrwst breeder G Jones ai Gwmnis maiden heifer Seisiog Bet 96th. This daughter of Foel Myrddin 16th reached 3000gns before being claimed by Martin Stewart, Conwy, Gwynedd.

Another bull, the Carnedd-Dafydd Du son Pentra Banner 3rd from R and C M Jones, Pwllheli, made 2600gns. Buyer was Mr Owen, Tregaron. The May 1995-bred Neuadd Purren 49th, by Dysserth Llewelyn, was sold with a bull calf at foot at 1120gns to W P Micah, Machynlleth, Powys. (Farmers Marts – R G Jones.) &#42
