High Court hears GM protest appeals
By Adrienne Francis
TWO legal appeals concerning genetically modified crops were due to be heard at the High Court in London on Monday (15 October).
Rowan Tilly, of the environmental group Genetix Snowball, was set to appeal against a conviction of aggravated trespass on 15 June last year.
The incident involved environmental protestors who removed GM oilseed rape belonging to the biotech firm AgrEvo from a field in Cambridgeshire.
Protestors delivered the rape back to owner AgrEvo, with signed statements calling on the company to accept liability for genetic pollution.
The High Court was also due to hear a Crown Prosecution appeal involving the acquittal of seven environmental protestors on 12 June last year.
That trial concerned a protest involving the removal of AgrEvo GM maize from a government farm-scale trial site at Over Compton in Dorset.
