IAH- innocent…
THE Institute of Animal Health continues to protest its innocence over the failed BSE-in-sheep experiment after it was blamed for the fiasco. Two audits into how scientists studying BSE in sheep ended up mistakenly using cattle brains pointed the finger at the institutes Edinburgh laboratory.
The audits were published last Friday (Nov 30). One, by the company Risk Solutions, said it was likely that incorrectly labelled cattle brain samples were selected for the experiment. Both cattle and sheep brain samples had been stored at the institute since a rendering experiment there in the early 1990s.
The other audit, by the UK Accreditation Service, blamed inadequate record-keeping . But the institute, which is conducting its own inquiry, hit back. In a statement, it claimed: "There is no clear evidence for a mistake" having been made at Edinburgh.
