IN BRIEF
uHIGH sugar grasses have a role to play in all farming systems, not just dairy herds, says Peter Wilkins of IGER. "Liveweight gain of Charolais steers on high sugar grass rose by 25% against a control group. This was a result of increased intakes of 20%," says Mr Wilkins. "Sheep grazing in a similar trial produced liveweight gains of 20%." Extra benefits of high sugar grasses included improved use of nitrogen by grazing livestock. *
