In time for harvest
AVAILABLE for the 1998 harvest is a new medium-capacity combine harvester from Massey Ferguson. Aimed at those harvesting up to about 120ha (300 acres), the five straw-walker MF28 slips into the range between the current MF30 and MF26 models.
Manufactured for AGCO by Finland-based Sampo Rosenlew – a company which also makes the smaller 23 and 26 models – power is provided by a 6-cyl Valmet engine rated at 185hp. Hydrostatic transmission is standard.
Threshing equipment comprises a 1.11m wide twin drum system – a 400mm diameter pre-separator with wedge-shaped beaters fitted in front of a 500mm diameter main threshing cylinder. Both drums have their own adjustable concaves to give a concave area of 0.85sq m.
A feature which should appeal to purchasers of the MF28, says Massey Ferguson, is its ability to be cleaned easily. Included in the specification are removable walker bottoms, accessed through a rear hatch, slide-out grain pan sections, full width drop-down bottoms beneath cross augers and removable grain tank augers.
Tank capacity is 4600 litres, with the tank constructed to provide two main sections – an arrangement which aids stability when working in steep conditions. Discharge height of the emptying auger is 3.4m.
For the operator, a cab fitted with tinted glass has all the main controls grouped to the right.
With cutting width options comprising 4.2m, 4.5m and 4.8m, prices start at £97,250. *
New for the 98 season is the MF28 combine. Easy cleaning when changing crops – particularly seed crops – is claimed to be one of its features.
