John Deere 6620[125hp]

In the past three months Rundle Weldhen’s 125hp, John Deere 6620 has clocked up more than 700 hours out on hire with another contractor.

Robert Tremayne, who is based at Higher Marne, Gweek near Helston in Cornwall is a general agricultural contractor.

Mr Tremayne has hired tractors from Mr Weldhen before and has been using the 6620 since the beginning of May. The tractor is working alongside an existing John Deere 6900 and a 6210.

“The 6620 is a good all-rounder. It is the ideal size and power for our operation and is suitable for a wide range of jobs,” says Mr Tremayne.

The tractor arrived on 15 May and went straight to work pulling a Pottinger Mex 6 forage harvester, covering for a breakdown.

It was then used to haul potatoes before working down ground for cauliflower planting with a folding Kuhn power harrow.

The tractor is round baling with a New Holland 648 and has clocked up a total of 1670 trouble-free hours.

“This kind of work can really test a tractor, but the 125hp engine has worked well and it has plenty of power for either the forager or the power harrow.

The tractor really suits our work and, as the hours show, it has hardly stopped since it has been here,” he adds.

He services the tractor himself, with parts, paid for by Mr Weldhen, supplied through Cornwall Farmers.

Although he has not logged fuel use, he reckons it is quite economical. He has a meter on the tank and will check the actual consumption for the next report.
