Last chance to use admixture
Last chance to use admixture
THIS harvest will be the last opportunity for oilseed rape and linseed growers to use Actellic (pirimiphos-methyl) as an admixture to control insect pests in stored oilseeds. The use of liquid Actellic D and smoke generators to treat buildings prior to storage of oilseeds, and its use throughout the harvesting and storage of cereals, will continue unchanged.
The move follows the voluntary decision of manufacturer Zeneca not to pursue registration for oilseed admixture use, but to concentrate registration resources on satisfying PSD and EU regulatory authorities on the products continued use in cereals. Agrochemical suppliers and growers now have until Mar 31 2002 to use existing stocks, although a further early revocation of the EU maximum residue level in oilseeds could see this use effectively withdrawn by July 2001.
"We believe growers can effectively manage pests in stored oilseed crops with an integrated combination of good store hygiene, effective drying and pre-storage cleaning with Actellic," says product manager Peter Rankin.
"While the use of Actellic admixture has proven a useful further treatment where pest problems have occurred in stored oilseeds, it was felt more important to maintain its essential use for the storage of cereal crops." *
