Malting trade is still positive
DESPITE likely rises in spring barley sowings prospects for malting markets remain positive, says HGCAs Alistair Dickie. "The UKs experience this autumn is not the same for the rest of the EU so premiums could stay robust," he suggests.
Beer consumption in south-east Asia and south America continues to rise steadily, increasing world malt demand. Also sterling and the dollar have slipped from recent highs, making UK maltsters more bullish. "I actually saw a maltster smile recently so they must be in a good mood." *
