March registrations fall
TRACTOR registrations in March were 7.4% down on the same period last year, reports the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA).
A total of 1170 units were registered bringing the year-to-date figure, and those for the first quarter, to 2135 units, a modest 3.9% above last year which was the lowest first quarter ever recorded. AEA economist Chris Evans says such results indicate that all sectors of UK farming remain depressed. "The recent package of agricultural support, which contained partial compensation for adverse currency movements, may provide some small degree of optimism, but any improvement is unlikely until there is a firming of prices." *
