Masseys US-built big square baler range is upgraded

Massey Ferguson has upgraded its big square baler range. The MF 185 Series II is said to be the first baler from AGCOs factory in Hesston, Kansas, to benefit from an upgrade since AGCO took control of the plant in May last year.

For the MF 185, improvements includes use of a knotter fan option which blasts a stream of air over the knotters to keep the area free of debris. An air speed of 145kph (90mph) is claimed to be capable of clearing out material pushed into the knotters by the needles.

A new reversible drawbar which provides a wide choice of mounting positions to suit different tractors is also now fitted. MF says the drawbars configuration increases the clearance between the pick-up and chamber to improve crop flow.

Other changes includes the strengthening of a number of components – stronger pick-up with larger bearings, heavier duty main frame and gearbox mountings, a square rod stuffer arm fitted to a stronger support bracket mounted in a larger bearing.

For the 187 baler MF is offering an option for a factory fitted cutter unit which can be set to reduce crop length to 48, 96 or 156mm. The knotter fan system can also be specified for the 187.

Still the biggest and the best, claims MF for the 190 baler which produces bales with dimensions of up to 1.18 x 1.27m.

Improvements for this monster include reinforced gearbox and knife mounting points, a stronger packer drive chain, and a dual cam track pick-up now uses a centre bulkhead and larger bearings.

Prices of the 185, 187 and 190 balers are £60,000, £70,250 and £74,180 respectively. &#42
