McDonalds improves US hen welfare

FAST food giant McDonalds has ordered egg suppliers in the US to phase out de-beaking and provide bigger cages, reports The Independent.

McDonalds decided upon these new standards after recommendations by a panel of scientists appointed to address concerns from lobby groups.

A spokesman said the company wanted to be a leader on the issue.
