A FORMER finance manager of the Milk Development Council has been charged with forgery, false accounting and publishing a false statement.
Patrick Morris, 53, of Church Square, Shepperton, Surrey, appeared at Cheltenham magistrates court on Wednesday (Aug 28). He was charged with 24 counts of forgery, six counts of false accounting and three counts of publishing a false statement.
All the offences are said to have happened between 1996 and 2000. The case was adjourned until Nov 6 for transfer to crown court. Mr Morris was granted unconditional bail.
The council is a statutory body funded to the tune of £8m a year by dairy producers, who pay a levy on their milk. It was behind the "White Stuff" campaign, which used sports celebrities Chris Eubank and George Best to boost milk sales. *
