More Scots farmers seek charity help
THE Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Association (RSABI) has seen a sharp rise in the number of farmers in need of its help over the last decade, reports The Herald.
It supported 240 in the early part of the 1990s. Now some 600 beneficiaries are getting an average of £300 each.
The RSABI had an income of £398,639 last year. The bulk of that income came from an investment portfolio which yielded £283,000.
Voluntary donations totalled £108,221. The direct charitable expenditure to those in need amounted to £333,742.
