More time to plant and claim

THE deadline for the sowing of spring crops is to be extended by two weeks.

Crops must now be planted by 31 May to be eligible for payment under the Arable Area Payments Scheme.

“The exceptionally and unseasonably wet April has disrupted the sowing of spring crops,” said Joyce Quin, Minister of State.

“I am sure this extension, requested by the NFU, will be of help to Englands arable farmers.”
