Mums the word for Dorset estate

AFTER the "is she, isnt she" Kylie Minogue hype that surrounded the recent launch of Tyntesfield in Somerset, FPDSavills has kept the launch of the Encombe Estate in Dorset very much under wraps.

Ironically, however, with a far more practical residence -Tyntesfield had over 40 bedrooms – the secluded estate would be much better suited to a pop star seeking refuge from the tedium of fame, according to a spokesman at the firm.

Located in over 2000 acres of sporting and farm land on the Isle of Purbeck, the 18th century, 12-bedroomed mansion is surrounded by listed parkland and lakes. The 1575 acres of farmland is let along with 12 cottages on short-term tenancies, bringing in an annual income of over £110,000. The shoot, reputedly one of the best in southern England, is run in 250 acres of woodland. Two miles of coastline also includes a private beach.

This is the first time the estate has come to the market in 200 years, having been bought by Lord Eldon, a prosperous Newcastle coal merchant, in the early 19th Century. It is being offered for sale as a whole for in excess of £15m. &#42

Encombe, Dorset, is the latest estate to be launched by FPDSavills, but as yet no major celebrities are reported to be in the running.
