New-look Unimog soon
A NEW look for the Mercedes-Benz Unimog heralds a number of significant specification changes for the latest-generation model, due for its UK launch later this year. Most obvious changes are the truncated bonnet and deeper windscreen to give maximum forward visibility. But a switch from fixed to variable output hydraulics and from manual to a pre-select semi-powershift transmission should raise performance levels and ease of use. The 4.5t payload U300 is powered by 150hp and 177hp four-cylinder turbo engines, while the 6.5t payload U400 gets the more powerful of these two, plus a 230hp six-cylinder motor. Both come with a choice of 3080mm or 3600mm wheelbase lengths. They will be followed later by the U500, powered by 230hp and 280hp six-cylinder engines and capable of carrying 9t.
