New Simmental record is set

A NEW Simmental record price of 21,000gns was achieved at Perth when leading breeder Albert Clements made the call for a bull from a 15-cow Ulster herd.

Corrick Kentucky Kid was the only bull Cecil McIlwaine of Co Tyrone, took. However, he won the intermediate and supreme breed title for the owner before setting the trade alight.

He is a heifers calf, whose dam is a daughter of the noted Brinkton Brilliant and his sire is the heavily muscled bull Freighduff Brendan. He has a 400-day weight of 762kg and a beef value of 25.

Late in the sale the Clements collected the days second highest price when Darsham Lucky Strike, a Sterling Flint son out of a Kair cow by Well House Willem, realised 7000gns to Bill Barclay, Banffshire.

Also at 7000gns was Torran Knight, one of the sales heavyweights. Consigned by Brian Ross of Invergordon this son of Bemersyde Highlander weighed 805kg at 400 days and has a beef value of 31. Buyer was WE Parsons, Isle of Man.

Two bulls from the Blackford herd of W McPherson, Croy, sold at 6600gns and 6500gns. They were sons of Cleenagh Harry and Rosten Barney and were bought by RL MacLean, Rochester, Kent, and Ballmanaugh Farms, Isle of Man respectively.

Drumsleed Kelso from GW Smith, Aberdeen, sold at 5800gns to J Hunter, Northern Ireland. Will Oates from Co Durham invested in performance figures paying 5500gns for a Dovefields Gallant son with a beef value of 36.

There were two other 5500gns deals for bulls from Boddington Estates Sterling herd at Cheltenham and C Clarkes Burghbridge herd from Ipswich.
